Mr. Southwell,"Coach", is a true Floridian!  He was born and raised in nearby Arcadia, FL.  Coach Southwell earned a Master's Degree from the University of Florida in 2001 and began his teaching career at Gainesville High School in Alachua County, FL.  He was awarded the "ESE Rookie Teacher of the Year" in the spring of 2002.  Shorty after Mr. Southwell moved to Englewood to be closer to family and the waters of Charlotte Harbor. The rest is history, as they say. He is in his 23rd year at Lemon Bay High School.  During his time at Lemon Bay, Mr. Southwell has taught a variety of subjects, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Financial Literacy, Weightlifting, and HOPE.  Mr. Southwell has spent the last 22 years coaching football and weightlifting at Lemon Bay.  He served as the Head Football Coach from 2017 until 2024 and has been the Head Boys Weightlifting Coach since 2005.  During his tenure, Mr. Southwell has won numerous "Coach of the Year" awards and coached 7 individual State Champions in weightlifting.  

Coach Southwell loves Lemon Bay High School and our Englewood community.  He bleeds ORANGE and BLUE!  In his personal time he enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending family time with his wife and two children.
