Adopted Instructional Materials

  • FLORIDA INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ADOPTION SCHEDULE
Each year, instructional materials are reviewed and considered for adoption according to the Florida Instructional Materials Adoption Schedule.
  • 2024-2025

ÎÛÎÛϺ will consider instructional materials for K-12 Science for adoption and purchase in school year 2024-2025.  Newly adopted K-12 Science instructional materials will be implemented in school year 2025-2026. Meetings of committees convened for the purpose of ranking, eliminating, or selecting instructional materials for recommendation to the district school board will be noticed and open to the public in accordance with s. 286.011.  Committees convened for such purposes will include parents of district students.

All instructional materials, as defined in s.1006.29(2), used to teach reproductive health or any disease, including HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, development, and treatment, must be approved by the Florida Department of Education prior to use in the classroom.

    • Instructional materials will be accessible for review online for at least twenty (20) calendar days prior to the open, publicly noticed meeting at which a public hearing will be held so that the Board can receive comment, if any, about the instructional material under consideration for adoption.
  • Instructional materials are selected in compliance with School Board Policy 2520 and Florida Statutes 1006.28, 1006.283, 1006.31, and 1006.40.

Parents of students attending a public school in the school district or residents of Charlotte County may contest the school board’s adoption of specific instructional materials by filing a petition form within 30 calendar days after the adoption of the instructional materials by the school board. The form must be signed by the parent or resident, include the required contact information, and state the objection to the instructional material based on the criteria of s.1006.31(2) or s.1006.40(3)(d). Within 30 days after the 30-day period has expired, the school board will conduct a public hearing before an unbiased and qualified hearing officer.
